Meet the team: Jan Tatarynowicz

Meet Jan: A competitive Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighter and the owner of the adorable Lily, the Miniature Yorkie

When did you start working in the hospitality industry?
The Garden was my first hospitality job. I have been year for a year half now I started back in April of 2018. I came for one of the open job fairs that the hotel holds every year and the first person I met was Gavin, our Head of Concierge. He made quite the first impression is one of the reasons I decided to work in here.

What is your favourite part about working in The Garden?

Haha well that’s good can you elaborate?
The people make the place, which is very important. I love the variety the job holds. We are not simply serving tables, but also are responsible for the room service for the hotel. One my favourite things is getting to help hotel guests find their way around the hotel. However, the best thing of all is that we are pet friendly. I get to bring my puppy in, who you all may have met as she frequents The Garden’s Instagram page.

Can you tell us a bit about Lily?
Well I will tell you she is the prettiest female around. No joke. She loves to cuddle and doesn’t listen at all! She drives her big brother, Scotty who is a spaniel mix crazy. However, the craziest thing she does is bury herself in the bed covers and always ends up between the duvet cover and the duvet somehow. She then proceeds to run around inside the cover, and it takes ages to catch her!

Tell us a bit about what it’s like to be a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighter?
I have been competing for about 2 years now and love it. Depending on how much I am working in The Garden I will either train 3 or 6 hours a day. So far, last year I won the British Nationals and this year I came second and won the Irish Nationals.

What’s next?
My focus right now is competing, and I have been training and doing well all over to Europe, so the goal is to win the Europe Nationals. I really think I have a chance next year!
