Spotlight on Ramsbury Estate Distillery
This winter we partnered with Ramsbury Estate Distillery, an up-and-coming gin and vodka distillery in Wiltshire. On Wednesday 20 November, Ramsbury set up a floral spirits wall, beautifully nestled among our plant-filled oasis.
Guests were able to pour their own Ramsbury Estate cocktail on draft, or order a Ramsbury Highball, created by our talented bar team. Our special Ramsbury menu also featured a unique G&T, which could be garnished with botanicals and fresh ingredients inspired by those used to make the Ramsbury Estate gin.
The wall also brought to life the wildflowers found on the estate and included embellishments of coral quince blossom, which compliments the botanical notes of their single estate gin.
The Ramsbury Estate spans over 19,000 acres in the heart of the Kennet Valley in the southwest of England, and few members from our team recently had the pleasure to visit them. Alongside Ramsbury, you’ll find The Bell: a 300-year-old inn that’s filled with quaint and cosy rooms, plus a two rosette restaurant which features produce direct from the estate.
On the estate you’ll also find the Ramsbury Brewery which opened in 2004. The team was taken through the process of farming the wheat grain, Horatio, from the estate’s rolling fields to processing the wheat, which goes on to be made into beer, gin and vodka.
Operating a true grain-to-glass approach, everything used in the production of its beer, gin and vodka comes from the estate, allowing for complete control over the process and their concept of ‘estate of mind’. Ramsbury Single Estate gin and vodka are both distilled in a gorgeous 43-plate copper column and a number of copper stills.
Ramsbury also takes every step to make their operations at sustainable as possible. The distillery uses heat generated by a biomass boiler fed by their sustainable woodland, their livestock are fed the spent wheat from the distillery and their waste water is cleaned by a wildlife-friendly reed bed system.
The team also had a sneak peek at a couple products that are not yet for sale, including an apple vodka made from crab apples and eating apples, and a sloe gin that’s perfect for this time of year.
The trip was finished off with a memorable five-course tasting menu in The Bell and a night staying in the cosy rooms. We’d like to say a huge thank you to Ramsbury for showing our team what the estate is all about and taking such good care of them!
